Hugo's Mom gives all
By Angry Conservative on 1/31/2007 12:55 AM
This is a very chilling story:

story.chavez.ap.jpg

CNN's story on Chavez's latest power grab.

Hugo Chavez is on the verge of taking all power in Venezuela. If this law passes tomorrow, he will be able to seize any privately owned company, alter all schooling, and impose any tax to any person. Freedoms are rapidly disappearing in that country, and all I can say is I'm glad I'm not Venezuelian.

This is a scary turn for us as well, since Mr. Chavez has been very open about what he'd like to do to the U.S. With this additional power, not only will it strain the oil market (which is silly if oil turns out to be abiotic) but the riches he earns is being used to beef his military, and he's already shown he wants to be a nuclear power...

Scary times...

Recommended Readings on Global Warming
By Angry Conservative on 1/30/2007 11:56 AM
Stumbled across this recent book and so far it's been a very good read.

Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years

In a nutshell, the book explains that most of the earth’s recent warming occurred before 1940, and thus before much human-emitted CO2 (as we well know on this site). Moreover, physical evidence shows 600 moderate warmings in the earth’s last million years. The evidence ranges from ancient Nile flood records, Chinese court documents and Roman wine grapes to modern spectral analysis of polar ice cores, deep seabed sediments, and layered cave stalagmites.

Unstoppable Global Warming shows the earth’s temperatures following variations in solar intensity through centuries of sunspot records, and finds cycles of sun-linked isotopes in ice and tree rings. The book cites the work of Svensmark, who says cosmic rays vary the earth’s temperatures by creating more or fewer of the low, wet clouds that cool the earth. It notes that global climate models can’t accurately register cloud effects.

It's nice to have evidence that stretches a little beyond 30 or so years...

Iran and Iraq, bosom buddies?
By Angry Conservative on 1/29/2007 12:04 PM
Iran just revealed that they are going to interfere even more with Iraq's affairs:

New York Times Article: Iranian Reveals Plan to Expand Role in Iraq

Here's a small snippet:

"The ambassador, Hassan Kazemi Qumi, said Iran was prepared to offer Iraq government forces training, equipment and advisers for what he called “the security fight.” In the economic area, Mr. Qumi said, Iran was ready to assume major responsibility for Iraq reconstruction, an area of failure on the part of the United States since American-led forces overthrew Saddam Hussein  nearly four years ago."

This is hilarious. The "security fight" is partly Iran's problem! If they would stop sending Shites in to cause this sectarian violence, Iraq wouldn't have nearly the amount of problems it does now. And the one area that Bush has done really well has been the Iraq reconstruction. Power, water, schools, just about everything is above pre-war levels. The only problem areas are some parts of Bagdad and the Anbar province. Everything else is doing great (but when do we hear about that in the news?)

Paradox of Politics
By Angry Conservative on 1/25/2007 6:39 PM
I love politics, especially when I spot the many different paradoxes that exist within different political parties. For example, the party that fights hard to keep prisoners alive also fight hard to kill unborn babies. This same party that claims to be the party for African Americans was also the party that fought hard to keep slavery.

Don't get me wrong and think I'm only picking on one party. All parties are guilty of these ironies, for example, Republics are strongly for small governments but push really for a large military (which is a government institution). There are many paradoxes within all political parties.

I'm going to have to keep a tally of these paradoxes and put them in my Answers page. Please, email me as you come across any and I'll keep the list updated.

Living Fossil filmed
By Angry Conservative on 1/24/2007 4:19 PM

I won't normally post non-political stuff here, but found this tidbit on the Drudge Report and was so amazed that felt it worthy to repeat here.

5ft Frill Shark, click to read article

"Marine park staff caught the 1.6 metre (5 ft) long creature, which they identified as a female frilled shark, sometimes referred to as a "living fossil" because it is a primitive species that has changed little since prehistoric times. "

Cold Weather Persists! Must be Global Warming!
By Angry Conservative on 1/23/2007 9:16 PM
Here's an interesting article:

http://wiadomosci.onet.pl/1471308,10,1,0,120,686,item.html

The geist of it is that natural gas futures are on the up due to persisting cold weather in the mid U.S. Surprising considering global warming should be affecting the globe, and everywhere should be warmer. Oh but didn't you hear? The east coast is having record warmth. Proof of global warming! Must be abrupt climate change.

Can't tell you how annoying it is to hear crap like this, rhetoric without any kind of proof. At the very least you could refer me to this Christian Science Monitor article. But even in that article, the "scientist" they quote throws out unscientific beliefs on global warming. Some feel the undo warmth is due to the North Atlantic Oscillation, a sort of Atlantic version of El Nino, something that has hardly been studied for long.

Apparently, lack of study = global warming

Don't look over the shoulder of China
By Angry Conservative on 1/23/2007 9:00 PM
Very interesting news has surfaced about China. They have confirmed that they indeed created an anti-satellite weapon, but apparently they haven't gotten their story straight. Financial Times is reporting that China shot down an old satellite, and their foreign ministry confirms it while at the same time the defense ministry is denying it.

The article can be read at http://www.ft.com/cms/s/e657a164-aaa7-11db-b5db-0000779e2340.html.

The Answers are coming
By Angry Conservative on 1/23/2007 1:36 AM
I am beginning a new feature here at angryconservative.com, the Answers. Many times "talking points" are thrown at us and even when they don't have many facts to back up their side, we are expected to provide all sorts of proof. While most of us feel that our side is right, often times we don't have the necessary facts at hand. That's where the Answers come into play.

Over the next few months, I will be adding many topics into the Answers addressing liberal "talking points" from Global Warming to the War in Iraq. On all of these topics, the question will be listed, and what flimsy evidence the left tends to cite will also be listed. Then all facts will be displayed debunking the weak talking point. After facts, speculative evidence will be shown with various degrees of credibility.

I'm looking forward to debunking so many lame talking points. This is going to be fun.
