Global Warming Gestapo tactics
By Angry Conservative on 7/27/2007 1:59 PM
We all know the Democrats like to compare Bush to Hitler and his Gestapo, but what about the EPA? As I've mentioned in other Global Warming posts, the dangers of politically driven policies is that science-be-damned! It must fit within my policy or be done away with. Recently, an EPA member group threatened to destroy a "denier"s career:

Earth_on_Fire_Animated.gif

Washington Times article: Destroying a Denier's Career

"It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar," Mr. Eckhart wrote. "If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on."

Gotta love how globalwarmists (and just about everyone on the left) threatens when they can't get things their way...

Democratic Woes
By Angry Conservative on 7/18/2007 8:37 AM
The Democrats are running both the house and the senate, and they are not learning from the Republican mistakes. Their recent showboating led by Harry Reid, trying to twist senate rules into a fillabuster (the minority party has the right to request a 60 vote passage, but Reid feels that's a fillabuster for some reason, looks like someone needs to go back to political college), plans for unchecked spending, and misinterpreting America's displeasure with the war in Iraq to mean complete withdrawal and surrender is leading to the lowest approval ratings in history!

Bush_vs_Pelosi.jpg

"An even bigger majority, 83 percent, say the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing only a fair or poor job -- the worst mark for Congress in a Zogby poll."

Reuters reports on a Zogby poll that shows the lowest mark ever for Congress. I'm going to try to lay out a few reasons why.

Democrats love to Tax and Spend

One of the reasons the Republicans were booted out of office last year was not because the Democrats had so much more to offer, it's because the Republicans themselves were not following their own principles. They were spending like crazy, and this caused a lot of voters to simply stay home. Democrats now in power or planning on spending even more and people don't like this.

One of the latest earmarks from a Democrat is a million dollars for a non-exists institution. The Politico reports on John Murtha's earmark and this is one of many reasons why people are not liking the current political climate (talk about a needed climate change). Couuple this with their desire to do away with Bush's tax cuts, and that's a recipe for disaster.

Lack of Plan in Iraq

The Dems keep misinterpreting the results of the election as "the American people wanting a change in Iraq and us pulling out". What blows my mind is WE HAVE CHANGED! Iraq policy has changed from doing nothing under Rumsfield, hoping that a diplomatic solution will suddenly appear, to actually killing al Qaida! This troop surge is working so well that the so-called Sunni insurgents are allying with Americans to kill terrorists. This month finally the surge is complete, all the extra troops are in place in Iraq and they can really start the job, but does any of this matter to the Democrats?

I posted a while ago about the pains of being General George Petraus. They vote him in unanimously, tell him they will support him, and before the troop surge has even begun, they want to call it a failure and pull all troops out. Listen to me now and hear me later, Americans do not want to pull out of Iraq!

I'm not the only one shouting this. The L.A. Times thinks pulling out of Iraq is a bad idea. They had many articles today explaining that without the proper planning, pulling out of Iraq will be worse then how we pulled out of Vietnam and left millions to die from Ho Chi Man and Poll Pot. In an article entitled "Pullout proposal lacking a Plan B" Noam N. Levey of the L.A. Times explains that much violence will ensue if we pull out now. I love this quote:

"Senate Democrats' "New Direction" agenda, in which the party touts its goals, does not address the issue of a post-withdrawal Iraq, noting only that "Senate Democrats remain committed … to bring the war to a successful and responsible end.""

Somehow leaving Iraqis to a lot of violence and blood shed is a "successful and responsible end". Heck, even the new Security General of the U.N. has warned that an early pull out is bad. I swear if I hear "new direction" or "it's time for a change" one more time, I'm going to punch someone.

Ignoring Success in Iraq

All this grand-standing is ignoring any kind of success in Iraq. Today, U.S. Forces captured Abu Shahid, the highest ranking Iraqi in al-Qaida in Iraq! This with many other successes in Iraq are being ignored by both the Democratic led governments and the media (who is focusing on the showboating from the Dems). AP reports the details and importance of this capture. If we hadn't surged the troops, this would have never happened.

Troops are reenlisting in record numbers, even now, when Dems claim that Trrops are wasting their time and should be brought home. The Christian Science Monitor reports:

"The design of the all- volunteer force [after Vietnam] was to make this kind of [open-ended] commitment difficult," says Thomas Donnelly, a military expert at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. "But there have been some extraordinary levels of motivation going on, in terms of serving the country in a time of crisis."

The "open-ended commitment" would be difficult, if the cause was unjust, and if the soldiers themselves didn't feel like they were doing good. But instead, they are reenlisting in droves! They see first hand the good they are doing and want this trend to continue.

End of Democrats is near

The Democrats are ignoring the failure of the Republicans. Lose sight of core American values and you will lose your control of the government. I guess I shouldn't be complaining, since Republicans are far closer to conservative values then Democrats. Keep up the good work Dems!

Don't fall asleep on John Edwards watch!
By Angry Conservative on 7/17/2007 9:33 AM
In a townhall presentation on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer, John Edwards gave a thrilling speech about his plans on Iraq. So thrilling that a man in a blue shirt fell asleep. But the producers of the show couldn't have this, so they removed him. It's kind of funny. Watch the man in blue to the right of John Edwards. His eyes are closed and he appears to be dozing. Less then a minute later, he's simply not there.

The Economy can never be good under Bush
By Angry Conservative on 7/13/2007 8:16 AM
I was listening to NPR on the way into work this morning, and they had a report on the "lower then expected sales figures" for June.

us_deficit_shrinking.jpg

Read a detailed report from Bloomberg about it.

I love how when Bush is in the white house, all economic news always has to have a negative spin. Instead of the actual growth we've had, it's reported as it being short of analysts predictions. "Lower then expected," and "weak economy" are in just about every report you hear from the drive-by media. All of this news is reported when the very same day Fortune Magazine reports that we are in "the greatest economic boom ever."

"Just how red-hot is the current worldwide expansion? "This is far and away the strongest global economy I've seen in my business lifetime," U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson declared on a recent visit to Fortune's offices," is how Rik Kirkland's article starts in today's Fortune Magazine. The article is very enlightning for those who are leary of economic booms (LIKE WE'RE IN RIGHT NOW!), since with every rise, there is inevitably a fall.

With such a big boom, are we in for a recession or depression? If we're lucky it will happen during a Democratic president, then we'll really see how un-biased the media truly is.

Confusions over Iraq
By Angry Conservative on 7/9/2007 9:38 AM
Every time I hear a Democrat speak about the elections last year and interpreting the results as a mandate for Iraq withdrawal, I just want to pull my hair out. How could they get the results so mixed up? Americans don't want to leave Iraq high & dry, they want results in Iraq. Unfortunately, due to our biased media, we never see results in Iraq. I mean, how many of you know how many new schools have been built or renovated in Iraq? How many know the pre-war levels of basic utilities and post-war levels? How many know the repression of the Baathist party against the average Iraqi, and the freedoms they now live? I've spent the last hour trying to dig up this information, it's out there, but it's hard to find.

Now, however, some Republicans up for reelection are worried that because of the war, they'll lose the next race. They, just like the Democrats, are misinterpreting America's uneasyness about Iraq. They think that if we don't pull out, they won't be reelected. They couldn't be more wrong, and I think it's because they're in Washington surrounded by other naysayers that makes them think this way. Americans don't want to pull out (except for a small but loud minority on the left, who are as crazed as the pro-soviet minority of yesteryear), they want victory! If any Republican starts backing up on the war now, then they will get voted out of office, but it won't be because the war is taking long, it'll be because the people at home will be disgusted and simply not vote, thinking a Democrat is just as good as a Republican in office. That's what happened last year to the votes in the House...

Recently, Richard Lugar spoke out against the President and his new strategy in Iraq, the extremely effective surge and hold counter-insurgency policy that is now finally being put into place. Mr. Lugar is the most senior republican to speak against the President. If you want to read an excellent rebuttal of his words, check out William Kristol's editorial in last week's Weekly Standard. He quote an expert in counter-insurgency (which Lugar is NOT) about the progress being made in Iraq, something you won't see in any of the drive-by media outlets.

The Wall Street Journal reported today that Iraq's foreign is pleading that American not withdraw militarily. I've said this before, Iraq is an ally of ours that we are helping. We shouldn't leave until they ask us to. And I pray to God that we have a long lasting base there for the next 100 years.

Can we believe the media on public opinion?
By Angry Conservative on 6/27/2007 8:12 AM
I stumbled across an interesting article yesterday about a public internet poll on global warming:

Three Quarters Believe Global Warming a 'Natural Occurrence'

An internet survey in the UK polled 4000 votes and "found that a staggering 71 percent of people think the rise in air temperature happens naturally." I laughed when I read that, and felt a little more comforted. As usual, the mainstream media is making a lot of big hype out of a non-story issue, and fortunately, a vast majority of those listening aren't giving them any credence.

After reading that story, it made me look at some of the other nations in the EU and made me wonder if the people of Europe are indeed closer to American thinking then the left media wants you to believe. Look at France, they just elected Sarkozy on a platform of tougher immigration, tougher working laws (no more 30 hr work week), more anti-sociolism, and stronger ties with America. The general France populace seems to agree with Germany, whose president Koehler was recently elected on a similar "conservative" platform.

The EU is looking more and more USA then ever, but the media doesn't cover it that way. I wonder why...

Hurricanes! Blame Bush!
By Angry Conservative on 6/25/2007 4:07 PM
As tragic as the hurricanes have been the past few years, I always had to chuckle when people blamed Bush for the bad weather. It's his fault because he didn't sign the Kyoto Treaty! But if you apply that logic, then wouldn't the reverse be true? When the weather is good, isn't it Bush's fault?

hurricane.jpg

Where are all the hurricanes?

The above article talks about how last year, there were many predictions of hurricanes, but not one landed on the US shores. This year, there are the same dire predictions, but so far, they haven't even formed in the Atlantic. Now, we are a bit early in the season, as they traditionally fall around August and September, but still, the point is Bush must be to blame that these hurricanes are hitting us now, since he was to blame when they were hitting us...

Deniers Series! Global Cooling on it's way
By Angry Conservative on 6/22/2007 2:24 PM
Remember those Canadian articles I reported back on a while ago about the Global Warming deniers? Well, they're up to twenty five installments! Their last two were great, about the Global Cooling "scare" in the 70s that actually may still be a problem.

global_warming_or_global_cooling.png

Global Warming or Global Cooling?
(Wikipedia's entry on Global Cooling)

The first Denier article, Forget warming - beware the new ice age reminds us all of the scare back in the 70s and the laws that were enacted because of it. Seems foolish in hindsight, and in fact, Newsweek magainze actually printed a retraction last year for an article written in 1975, 30 years ago! They claim that now, the scientists have it right. Or do they? One Global Cooling scientist, Dr. Kukla, is very worried, since the planet has shown that before we enter ice ages, we have a warming period. He's afraid the current warming trend may be right before a major ice age, which lasts 10,000 years (and we're overdue for one).

If that doesn't scare you, read the second article: Read the sunspots. Politicians feel "the science is settled", which I can't tell you how arogant and down right retarded that sounds! Scientists are always discovering new things, and disproving old theories. If all the scientists really knew everything there is to know about our climate, then how come I don't know if it's going to rain next week or not?

This is a great snippet:

"Climate stability has never been a feature of planet Earth. The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago, it was about 3C warmer than now. Ten thousand years ago, while the world was coming out of the thousand-year-long "Younger Dryas" cold episode, temperatures rose as much as 6C in a decade -- 100 times faster than the past century's 0.6C warming that has so upset environmentalists."

A lot in this article points to the sun as a major culprit of the Earth's climate. Who'da thunk? More sun means more warmth? And less sun means more cooling? Wow, didn't take a rocket scientist to tell me that (though it did take one to tell the environmentalists).

What's more important, faith or policies?
By Angry Conservative on 6/21/2007 2:04 PM
With as much mud slinging as typically happens in election years, you knew Mitt Romney would have a rough time being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, since there are many people that are rather opposed to this church. The most recent has come from John McCain's camp:

mitt_romney_mormon.jpg

McCain's county chairman Chad Workman attacks Romney's faith

The article linked above talks a lot about how his faith, "mormonism", is a tempting target for detractors to attack. The attack from McCain's camp came from his county chairman. Here's what was said:

"Workman questioned whether Mormons were Christians, discussed an article alleging that the Mormon Church helps fund Hamas, and likened the Mormons' treatment of women to the Taliban's, said participants, who requested anonymity to discuss the meeting freely."

Unfortunately, the article doesn't make any effort to debunk the claims made by Workman.  It'd almost be insulting if it wasn't so laughable. If Mitt won the primaries (which I truthfully doubt he will, but with his money-raising abilities, he'd make a good VP candidate), then what we've seen so far will be very tame compared to what MoveOn.org will spit out...

Main Stream Media not biased?

Need further evidence that the "main stream" media is liberal-biased? Check this out:

mainstream_media_donates_to_democrates.jpg

MSNBC's "Journalists dole out cash to politicians" article

The best thing in the article:

"The pattern of donations, with nearly nine out of 10 giving to Democratic candidates and causes, appears to confirm a leftward tilt in newsrooms"

Take from that what you will...

Global Warming: Denver has coldest June in 50 years!
By Angry Conservative on 6/11/2007 8:09 PM
Drudge had a great listing of 3 articles:

'Warming' plan in Denver: Crackdown on Residents

Denver see coldest June morning in over 50 years

9 of 12 warmest years for Denver occurred before 1955

Reading the three articles back to back and you get a great sense of why a lot of us conservatives are so frustrated at the whole global warming religion. The first article explains a plan that the Mayor is trying to put into place that will put unnecessary burdens on who? The little man. People who have older cars (which is usually the lower class), among others. Some of the claims in the article are rather silly too, such as Global Warming causes forest fires, and those who don't believe in it are "deniers". But where are the facts that show Denver in such danger?

Well, here's a couple of them. The second link shows that this past week was *very* cold in Denver, coldest in over 50 years. How can that be with Global Warming being so dangerous?

Another inconvenient fact for you, the third link points to NOAA's National Weather Service records of Denver's "warmest" summers. If we really are in such a dangerous warming trend, then you'd think that the past 20 or so summers should be the hottest. But nope, turns out a good majority of the warmest summers recorded in Denver were before 1955. Of course, that was back when there was the danger of global cooling.

These Global Warming fanatics have got it made, since no matter what happens in 5 years, they can claim victory. If we really are in danger, temperaturs will continue rising and things will get very hot in 5 to 10 years. If they're wrong, the world will cool in 5 to 10 years and they can claim that the cooling is only because of the "changes" they forced on everyone. Best bet in the world, you win both ways.

Impressive Patriotism: Massive Flower Flag
By Angry Conservative on 6/5/2007 8:31 AM
Got this emailed to me, and while I normally ignore the massive fw:fw:fw:fw: emails, I really liked this one:

massive_flower_flag.jpg

"The flag is planted, there are 9+ miles of flower fields that go all the way to the ocean. The flowers are grown by seed companies. It's a beautiful place, close to Vandenberg AFB. Check out the dimensions of the flag. The Floral Flag is 740 feet long and 390 feet wide and maintains the proper Flag dimensions, as described in Executive Order #10834. This Flag is 6.65 acres and is the first Floral Flag to be planted with 5 pointed Stars, comprised of White Larkspur. Each Star is 24 feet in diameter; each Stripe is 30 feet wide. This Flag is estimated to contain more than 400,000 Larkspur plants, with 4-5 flower stems each, for a total of more than 2 million flowers.

I Snoped this and it turns out to be true. See the snopes article here: http://www.snopes.com/photos/patriotic/floralflag.asp.

One step back, two steps forward
By Angry Conservative on 6/4/2007 1:00 AM
I was a teenager during the fall of the Soviet Union, and I recall some rather anti-Russian teachers of mine warning me that the Communists were known for taking one step backwards if it would allow them to take two steps forward. In other words, this "break up" could be a feint to make them more powerful. Fortunately, this seemed to be a false belief, as the different nations became sovergn the USSR was no more. However, some of the recent actions of Putin as starting to make me wonder. Is Russia rising again and wanting to start another cold war?

Putin_Russia_Missile_Returns.jpg

Putin threatens to target Europe with Missiles

Among many of Russia's recent anti-freedom/anti-democracy moves (they've been closing free papers, meddling in other nation elections, botching terrorist attacks) they've recently threatened the rest of Europe by announcing that they will point their missiles at them! Get this logic:

"Mr. Putin, in an interview at his country residence outside Moscow, said he considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia. Asked what he might do to retaliate, he said he would return Russia to the Cold War status where missiles were aimed at European targets."

Are you as confused as I am about that?!? Because the U.S. wants to protect Europe (which includes Russia) Putin is going to start aiming missiles at Europe again, reigniting the Cold War! I don't understand some of this logic. Why are there these wacked out leaders who think America is some kind of a colonization nation, one that wants to conquer other nations? We invaded Afghanastan and Iraq in response to 9/11, and after we wiped the governments off the planet, did we establish the 51st and 52nd states?!? No! We allowed the people of their nations to create their own governments based on democracy and most importantly freedom! Why does North Korea think we'll invade them? Except to take away their nukes, we don't want Kim's wasteland! Why does Putin think we'd ever attack Russia? It's insane!

FINALLY! U.S. in Iraq for decades to come!
By Angry Conservative on 5/30/2007 10:00 AM
Bush is getting back on my good side where Iraq is concerned (and he's only on my bad side when he starts losing his backbone and becomes weak). Earlier this week, he stated what I've been saying for a long time that Iraq are our allies and we'll leave when they ask us to (see my earlier blog post). Well, today he voiced another opinion I've had for quite some time, and that is that we should never leave Iraq and instead stay there for a long time helping this country retain it's security and democracy.

Reuters reports that Bush wants the U.S. to stay in Iraq the same way we've stayed in South Korea. And I couldn't agree more! Especially after the sacrifices our soldiers have made in this war (and quite honestly, they are small compared to other wars), we have paid for the right to have a military base in that region for many years to come. It would be careless and negligent to not establish a long time base in the heart of the Middle East after all this time and money.

Hilary Clinton pushes socialism again.
By Angry Conservative on 5/29/2007 2:22 PM
Speaking at the Manchester School of Technology (for high school students even), Hilarious Clinton has been preaching that those who work hard should not be able to reap their own rewards, but should rather share with those who don't work.

Hilary_Clinton_Socialist.jpg

Yahoo News reporting on Clinton's pro-Socialism speech.

Yes, the above is just my interpretation of Clinton's speech, but what else am I supposed to think with the following quotes:

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society"
"I believe our government can once again work for all Americans."
"pairing growth with fairness to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy"
"Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies"
"We (the Democratic Party) have sent a message to our young people that if you don't go to college ... that you're thought less of in America. We have to stop this" (she should tell John Kerry)
"create new jobs by pursuing energy independence" (new oil drills in America?!?)
"ensure that every American has affordable health insurance"

So basically a bigger government that takes from the rich to give to the poor is what is needed. Socialism and Communism is a quickly, easier way to say it, though she tries to disguise it under "free market". More government is not what we need, we need more incentives for people to create businesses. Tax breaks for small businesses is what will keep this economy thriving (heck, it'll keep me thriving).

Nothing good will come from Kim Jong Il
By Angry Conservative on 5/25/2007 9:11 AM
Another firing of missiles from North Korea today.

North_Korea_Kim_Jong_Il_Nuclear.jpg

Yahoo News reports the missle tests.

Supposedly this is a yearly test, and so is not supposed to ruffle anyone's feathers, but I don't believe that. Why test your missiles if you never intend on using them? I just don't get the mentality of Mr. Kim, since he claims they want these missiles for self defense. AGAINST WHOM?!? Who in their right mind would want the waste land that is North Korea?!? The only thing the missiles are doing is making other, larger nations very nervous and if anyone attacks them, it would be a preemptive defensive strike.

FINALLY! He's said it!
By Angry Conservative on 5/24/2007 7:47 PM
I've said this before many times, for people who claim they desparately want to be "diplomatic" with Iraq, why would they pull out until the Iraqi's ask us to?!? They are an ally nation that is asking for our help right now! We should not pull out until they ask us to pull out! (and if truth be told, we will hopefully have a base there for the next 100 years).

At any rate, President Bush has finally said the same thing:

"We are there at the invitation of the Iraqi government. This is a sovereign nation. Twelve million people went to the polls to approve a constitution. It's their government's choice," the president said during a Rose Garden news conference. "If they were to say leave, we would leave."

It's about time!

Global Warming Absurdity: Noah's Ark
By Angry Conservative on 5/23/2007 11:29 AM

The absurdity of Global Warming is rearing it's ugly head again.

Noahs_Ark_Global_Warming_Flood.jpg

World needs another Noah's Ark because of Global Warming?

Now, some dumbass in Greenpeace thinks they should rebuild Noah's Ark to make the point that if so called "Global Warming" continues, we'll all be flooded and need a boat to save humanity. Yeah, I saw that movie too, it was called Waterworld and it starred Kevin Costner and if you liked that movie, then maybe Global Warming is indeed your cup of tea. The irony here is that probably the majority of Global Warmists aren't Christian and so don't believe in the Noah's Ark story anyways.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "If they can't predict the weather 10 days from now, what makes you think they can predict 10 years from now, let alone 100 years from now?!?" I can't wait for 5 years from now, when the Augie Auer prediction comes true and the planet starts cooling (just like in the 70s when there was all the Global Cooling fears, and 5 years later, the earth started warming).

Al Sharpton Update: Visits Mormon Church
By Angry Conservative on 5/23/2007 11:15 AM

Quick update on the Al Sharpton, he visited Utah and the LDS Church to try to ease over his recent controversial anti-Mormon comments, and to his credit, it was very low key. There were only a couple local news stories on the event, and he broadcasted his radio show from Salt Lake City (using Mormon facilities), and said something interesting:

"Whatever differences I have with their denomination or religion had nothing to do with my respect of their faith."

For a faith that is often the blunt end of a lack of respect, this is surprising.

Don't take your freedom for granted
By Angry Conservative on 5/22/2007 10:04 AM
For all you American Haters out there, don't ever forget that the freedom you have to hate your own nation is what makes America great. In other nations, you'd be thrown in jail, tortured, or even killed. There are many stories of Iran's suppression of press and freedom of speech. And lately they've been taking to trying to suppress other nations ability to express themselves. They tried to downplay "300", because the bad-guys were Persians, Iran's ancestors. Now, they're trying to get the Cannes Film Festival to not allow one particular movie shown:

my_mood_im_in_a_jihaad.jpg

Iran protests screening of movie at Cannes Film Festival

They are protesting and asking the Cannes Film Festival to not play "'Persepolis,'' an animated adaptation of Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel about growing up in Iran after the Islamic revolution. Fortunately, the movies was created outside Iran, so people can actually see it and judge for themselves.

Freedom of Speech = No American Flag!
By Angry Conservative on 5/21/2007 9:51 AM
The Las Vegas city council has recently ordered a Hummer dealership to lower their American Flag!

hummer_vegas_american_flag.jpg

Can't fly the flag anymore?

Interesting story, complaints that the dealership was doing this trying to draw sales, as opposed to displaying their patriotism, seems a bit strange to me. Where I live, there are plenty of stores that have flags flying, banks, grocery stores, etc. I like seeing the flag, and have no problem if it's flown at a commercial location.

What do you think? Flag at stores, patriotism or commercialism?

Fox News has the story (though it's suppicously quiet on the other websites). I find it amazing how some people want to turn this war into something it's not.

Steve has an interesting blog, and one I think my readers would appreciate. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Al Sharpton and Glen Beck

A followup to the Al Sharpton vs. Mormonism (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for the educated folks), Glen Beck spent a good 10 minutes on CNN. Check it out:

Watch to the end. Al does apologize, but not unconditional, and just as it gets good (how Al simply can't see that his statement was bigotted), it unfortunately cuts off at the end. I'll keep looking for more on this, and supposedly, he's going to Utah to meet with two of the Apostles from the LDS church.

Bigotted Mormons?
By Angry Conservative on 5/10/2007 7:57 AM

If you haven't heard, there was a debate on Monday between Al Sharpton and Christopher Hitchens. In this debate, Al Sharpton made an interesting quote:

"As for the one Mormon running for office, those who really believe in God will defeat him anyways, so don't worry about that; that's a temporary situation."

And of course there's an interesting double-standard being discussed around the nation as to why Al could make such a comment and receive a "pass" as it were, but he holds others to a higher standard, such as Don Imus. Mitt Romney, the person Al was inferring to, has responded to this on MSNBC:

Very interesting dialog. However, if you watched the whole debate, Christopher Hitchens was commenting that the LDS faith was "officially racists" until the 70s when they allowed blacks and other minorities to hold the priesthood, and he was wondering why no one in the media was asking Romney this. Probably because A) all Christian religions have been "racist" at one point in their history and B) it's not the Mormon faith that's running for president, it's Mitt Romney. I think he can separate the two...

How long can Sanjaya's last?
By Angry Conservative on 4/13/2007 9:21 AM
I didn't really want to comment on this, but it's getting so much buzz elsewhere, I  wanted to weigh in with my theory of why Sanjaya Malakar has not yet been voted off of American Idol.

Sanjaya_Malakar_Wins_Votes.jpg

Are Sanjaya's votes influenced by Howard Stern?

For those of you who don't know, Sanjaya is a 17 year old high school student that is not very good, especially compared with the other contestants on this year's American Idol. For some reason though, he keeps surviving the cuts. Howard Stern has a website that promotes the idea of voting for the worst contestant, and he claims credit for keeping Sanjaya on the game. I agree with the above linked article, there's too many votes to be too influenced by Stern's small audience.

Here's my theory: Sanjaya is Indian, first generation American. His father probably owns a call center back in India, or at the very least has some friends who do. As soon as the polls are open, he has his call center frantically calling during the 2 hr block, and this is what's keeping Sanjaya on American Idol...

Why is Global Warming dangerous? Econimics
By Angry Conservative on 4/12/2007 9:36 AM
A lot of people have asked me, if I'm for good stewardship of our environment, why am I so against Global Warming? In a word: economics.

Foreign Affairs: How Biofuels Could Starve the Poor

Excellent article on the dangers of ethanol. The problems with ethanol are two fold: 1) changes on the market and 2) simple not worth the effort. If corn is going to be on par with oil, the prices are going to quickly match, as we've recently seen. Corn prices have been on the rise, and in our current economy, corn is one of the base staples. It feeds cattle, it's used for corn flour, and it's used to make more corn. It's so base to the economy, even a minor fluctuation in the price can have major ripple effects. Price of corn is up, corn meal is up too. This has cause  Mexico's tortilla prices jumped, cause a major headache in their economy. Price of corn is up, the cost of feed for cattle and other livestock is up, which causes the cost of meat to rise, cause a headache in our economy. And now the cost of simple corn seeds is higher, causing a headache to our farmers.

The second danger of ethanol is that if you think this will stop global warming, keep dreaming. It takes more ethanol to travel a mile than gasoline. If we turns ALL our farmland into corn fields, we would only have enough ethanol to replace about 15% usage of our gasoline. Fuel emissions from our cars only accounts for 20% of the greenhouse gases. And to top it off, ethanol is no cleaner than gasoline! So we're talking 15% of 20% is the savings we'd have on ethanol. What's the point?!? We're all gonna fry or be under water in 20 years anyways...

Bottom line is it is impossible to replace our gas usage with ethanol, let alone our oil usage. Most people don't realize that out of a barrel of crude oil, only 51% is used for gasoline. The other half is used for many other products that we take for granted in our society, such other gases like propane and butane, tar for our roofs and roads, even material used in plastics and on computer boards. We aren't going to replace those with ethanol.

So this is what bugs me about the Global Warming furor. Rather than coming up with reasonable solutions (like cars that can reuse their emissions as energy coupled with drilling for oil in our own damn country), we waste time of headline grabbing dead ends like ethanol...

Found: Britain's Balls (no where near Iran)
By Angry Conservative on 4/11/2007 12:08 PM
Follow up stories, one of the British sailors that was detained in Iran has sold his story for an unconfirmed amount of 100,000 british pounds. The "Mr. Bean" Athur Batchelor (dubbed so after being called that by the Iranian interrogators, and he broke down in tears) sold his story, and the had to apologize for it.

Batchelor for life, Mr. Bean's Tale

A lot of his fellow servicemen are needless to say very dissapointed in Mr. Batchelor. Reading the story, there's one part that jumps out at me:

"Another servicemen says of Mr Batchelor's complaint that his iPod was stolen by the Iranians: "What I wish to know is why a young lad on a boarding party detail needed to take his iPod? If he listened to The Ride of the Valkyries as he sped towards the target ship, what did he listen to on his trip to Iran?" In response others on Rum Ration suggest: "Crying by Don McLean, perhaps?, The Beat Surrender, Always Look On The Bright Side Of life? and Onward Christian Soldiers."

Good stuff, good stuff...

Where's Britain's Balls?!?
By Angry Conservative on 4/3/2007 8:46 AM

What is with all this pussy-footing around? In case you haven't heard, last week Iran has kidnapped 15 UK soldiers that were doing routine checks for smugglers. They were in the murky waters between Iran and Iraq, that has been contested for centuries.

Yahoo News article on Iran hostages

Pictures and videos have been released all week, all propaganda ilk from Iran trying to make it seem like these soldiers are "guilty" of trespassing. There's a great video from ABC News that details the most recent video forced from Iran. Confessions like this rarely hold any milk (as many liberals are wont to point out from Gitmo confessions), the big different however is that A) we don't daily promote the obliteration of a sovereign nation and B) we don't daily break agreements about nuclear reactors.

My question though is where is Britain's Balls?!? Here they are talking and not doing anything about it. Bush at least has sent another aircraft carrier into the gulf, a clear signal that America is behind Britain if drastic measures need to be taken. And quite frankly, they should be taken. I'm the kind of person who advocates the use of violence only as a last resort, and quite frankly with these people, we're at our last resort. I can't believe how skillful these people are getting at manipulation. It's quite frankly appalling and they should be given a message to not f#@! with us anymore!

If it weren't for the bullet, you wouldn't fear the gun...
